A project about young people and daily life in contemporary Russia.
Toma Gerzha (b. 2003) grew up in Moscow, Kolchugino, and Lukhovitsy and still speaks Russian. Her family moved to the Netherlands in 2009.
In 2019, she successfully completed her photography course at the Dutch Academy for Visual Creation. Gerzha first gained attention within the gallery world with her project ".ru", consisting of photographic works generated using artificial intelligence, which were presented at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 2024. Toma has become widely known for her animation-based reels. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Arts and Culture at the University of Amsterdam.
Her work is part of the collections of the Rijksmuseum Research Library, Farm Cultural Park, the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, the Getty Library, and the Stedelijk Museum Library in Amsterdam. Since 2023, Gerzha has been an artist-in-residence at the creative studio Treehouse at the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam.
