Taiwo Aina works for Oxfam Novib.

 

Taiwo Aina is a visual storyteller and photojournalist based in Lagos, Nigeria, specializing in documenting real-life experiences. Her work frequently highlights societal issues that impact daily life, with a special focus on women’s empowerment, sports, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. Driven by her passion for research, Taiwo captures powerful narratives that reflect her deep curiosity and dedication to telling authentic stories.


With a diverse portfolio, Taiwo has worked with leading clients, including news publications, NGOs, and corporate organizations. She has been commissioned by The New York Times and has collaborated with CNN, Africa Report, The Globe and Mail, Panorama Nyheter, Google, and Annabelle Magazine. Her contributions extend to NGOs like UNICEF, Mercy Corps, Sightsavers, IRC, Red Cross, Oxfam, and more. Her work has been widely published, including in The Guardian (UK), Reuters, and other prestigious platforms.


In 2022, Taiwo held her first solo exhibition supported by Alliance Française Nigeria, showcasing her documentation of six female boxers in Lagos. She received the Women Photograph grant in June 2024 to further this project. Her 2023 collaboration with CNN, focusing on climate change and girls' education in northern Nigeria, was highlighted at COP 28 in Dubai. Additionally, her coverage of the End SARS movement was exhibited in the USA and at Foto Wien 2022in Austria.


Taiwo holds a degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. She is an alumna of VII and StoryMi Academy and a member of Diversify Photo, Black Women Photographers, Indigenous Photograph, Authority Collective, and the African Photojournalism Database (APJD); a joint initiative by World Press Photo and Everyday Africa.
