"The Extended Mind originated from an inner urge to create beyond thinking, purely from intuition. An ode to the process of creation itself, each image portrays a moment in that process. The images were created entirely in-camera, using reflection, refraction, and layered light."
Sjoukje van Gool is a photographer who works with water and nature as her metaphor for everything that takes place beneath the surface. Her images, including the series The Extended Mind, pulsate and tell of what moves invisibly along with them: a dreamed world in which movement becomes breath and color becomes emotion. Color is her language; just like music, it touches something within you without words and without judgment. She seeks the purity of the moment that touches, that one instant of weightlessness, freedom, and authenticity. From her own Underwater Studio, she also creates commissioned work, where art, technique, and intuition merge.
