Oleg Klimov is a Russian photographer who worked for many years for Dutch, European, and American newspapers.
Oleg Klimov was born in 1964 in the Tomsk district. He studied astronomy in Kazan, but abandoned his studies there to become a photojournalist. Since the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, Klimov has documented the most important events in the former Soviet Union for Russian and foreign media. From 1991 to 2012, Klimov was the regular photo correspondent for the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad.
Klimov has curated numerous exhibitions, including the 2005 exhibition "Legacy of a World Empire" at Huis Marseille in Amsterdam. A photo album with essays of the same name was published that same year by Edition Braun (Germany) and Mets&Schilt (Netherlands).
In 2022, the book "Calamity Islands | Sakhalin and the Kurils – terra incognita of a brutal Russian Empire" was published.
In 2013, Russian/Dutch filmmaker Masha Novikova made the film "Letters to Yourself" about Klimov.
