“My life on the water is not really visible in the images released so far, even though I take many photos during boat trips. From Amsterdam, we regularly sail our houseboat to Durgerdam and Hooft, and in the summers, we stay on the Wadden Sea near Vlieland. We lie at anchor, sea and sky surround us, the land has become a horizon. This photo was taken in front of Durgerdam. The ribbon village is just out of sight, the city only vague.
 
I feel drawn to that which is not named: shadow, the secret, taboos. Without manipulation or a preconceived plan, I try to capture fleeting, elusive moments. Through the use of picturesque light, I seek a path through the darkness. Children, who regularly reappear in my photos, are a metaphor for what is not yet conscious; you enter a world of the unnameable between knowing and not knowing, between what you see and what is hidden, a world in which reality and magic lie close together and can flow into one another, creating space to marvel and imagine what is not is shown.”
