Voor Altijd Nabij

Arnhem, 2023

Giclée print on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl paper.

Size 30x21 cm without white border.

My mother and I carry Lynch syndrome, a hereditary condition that increases the risk of developing several types of cancer. Carrying this gene confronts me with the finiteness of life at a young age.

Through the photography project, we're making death a topic of conversation, and I'm looking for a way to cope with the fear of losing my mother. Together, we're creating memories to face this darkness. The precious time we spend together brings us even closer. How do we cope with life when death looms? What impact does the proximity of death have on my mother and our connection?

Lin Woldendorp (born 1994) is an independent photographer based in Amsterdam. Her work has been featured in publications including NRC and de Volkskrant. As a portrait photographer, she works on personal projects in addition to her commissions. These projects focus on people and their struggles. How do they survive? How do they overcome obstacles? She focuses on subjects that are close to her heart. She strives for a balance between staging her work and reality. She directs her subjects, but also creates space for what emerges. In this way, she seeks sincerity to convey the right message. In her projects, she seeks connection and intimacy with others through a deepening approach. She achieves this by spending time with her subjects, spending time together.
