Lucky Day, 2021
IJmuiden
Giclée print on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl paper.
Size 30x24 cm without white border.
From the series Black Snow.
An abandoned amusement machine bearing the words ‘it’s your lucky day’ stands in an industrial landscape in IJmuiden. Its cheerful promise contrasts with the decaying surroundings. The photograph is part of Black Snow, a long-term project about the steel industry and its impact on people and their environment.
Harm van de Poel (1984) is a photographer and filmmaker. Through long-term documentary projects, he examines the relationship between people, industry and landscape. His project Black Snow explores life and work around Tata Steel in IJmuiden, where employment, pride, pollution and concerns about public health exist side by side. In 2026, Black Snow was presented as a solo exhibition at Verwey Museum Haarlem. The accompanying book will be published by Lecturis in October 2026.
