Guda Koster's work is at the intersection of fashion, sculpture, photography and performance. Her sculptures are made of textiles and are related to clothing. It was only a small step to crawl into the work and then photograph it. In these staged photographs, she is usually the model herself. In her work, the human body is integrated with geometric shapes in bright colours, sometimes covered with fabrics with striking patterns. The sometimes uncomfortable poses of the models often reveal no more than a leg or an arm. The faces are invisible, so the models remain sculptures first and foremost. Koster's work is not abstract, but it is stylised. They are carefully thought-out contemporary “tableaux vivants” full of references to everyday reality. Her work is mysterious and accessible and always instantly recognisable as a Guda Koster.
